The Bloomfield Municipal Youth Guidance Council was created to help Bloomfield’s youth utilize their spare time in a productive manner.
One of our main goals is to create a ramp park for skateboarders and freestyle bikers (estimated completetion date Oct. 2008) as well as a youth center to help keep our 7-12 graders off the streets and out of trouble. We are currently searching for a property that is centrally located in town to serve as the Bloomfield Youth Center.
There are grant monies available to pay for rent and/or to build a center from scratch; however, we cannot apply for these grants until we have a location. If you know of any available location that may be suitable, please contact us.
We are also in need of volunteer adult and youth (teenaged) advisors to assist us in carrying out our mission.
If you’re interested in helping us to help our youth stay on the straight and narrow, please fill out the volunteer form in the Contact Us section of this website or call us so that we can arrange for your attendance at our meetings.
Some of the activities that we have sponsored in the past and continue to sponsor annually include: Teen Job Fair, Youth Gang Awareness/Prevention Seminars and a Youth Festival (the next one is Oct. 4, 2008) which is generally attended by over 500 teens. Our next Teen Job Fair is scheduled for April 10, 2008, from 6-8 p.m., in the Bloomfield High School cafeteria. Please check back for details If we can raise the money, we will also try to sponsor another "Movies Under the Stars" in Brookside Park. This will be a three series event held throughout the summer months. Check back for details.
We will also be hosting a series of Internet Crimes/Safety seminars which will be held during the 2008-2009 school year. Check back soon for the exact dates and other details.
We hosted our first Teen Job Fair on June 11, 2003. It was such a success that we have decided to make it an annual event. We are also working in concert with the Bloomfield Board of Recreation to create a world class skate park in town where skateboarders and BMX bikers can enjoy their sport in a safe environment. Estimated completion date: Oct. 2008.
I also thank our appointed members, Adult Advisors and Youth Advisors, without whom the events that we sponsor would not be possible. Please navigate to the Youth Guidance Council Membership link for a list of our members.
Thank you for visiting our website and we look forward to your involvement with the BMYGC.
